Most people who go to New York on vacation often linger too long in Manhattan, missing out on the best sights in New York such as Brooklyn.

Brooklyn gets its name from the Dutch who were once here. After all, Brooklyn used to be called “Breukelen. This borough of New York includes the famous neighborhoods of Williamsburg, DUMBO and Dyker Heights. The atmosphere in Brooklyn is different, there is less tourism and the buildings have more of an industrial feel than in Manhattan. And it is the most densely populated area of New York with a multicultural society. You’ll find Russian, Ukrainian, Italian, Porto Rican, Jewish and Jamaican influences, for example.

Dumbo

Dumbo is short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, so you will find this neighborhood under the Manhattan Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge. It is a beautiful part of Brooklyn, where you can visit Empire Stores and Jane’s Carousel, among others. It is a place full of industrial structures and old warehouses, a picture you will know mostly from the many series and movies set in New York. Dumbo is also an incredibly hip neighborhood, full of trendy stores and restaurants. You also have a perfect view of the Manhattan skyline as well as the Manhattan Bridge from here. And speaking of sights in Brooklyn, this is probably the most photographed spot in all of Brooklyn. Indeed, at the corner of Washington Street and Water Street, you’ll take the iconic photo of the warehouses in the foreground and the Manhattan Bridge in the background.

Shopping and dining in Williamsburg

New York is, of course, the city of choice for shopping, but you’ll also find plenty of great stores in Brooklyn. On Bedford Avenue, between Metropolitan Avenue and North 12th Street you can store very nicely. There are many small boutiques by local designers with nice gadgets. On the side streets you will find fun foodtruck and restaurant where you can eat delicious food, so those who love a bite to eat among the locals should definitely check this out

Walking across the Brooklyn bridge

A walk across the Brooklyn bridge is must while visiting New York, so forget the subway and go on foot for once to walk from Manhattan to Brooklyn. At the end of the bridge you arrive in Brooklyn Heights with the Brooklyn Bridge Park on the waterfront with perhaps the best view of the Manhattan skyline.

Sunset Park

Sunset Park is one of New York’s hidden treasures. Tucked away in the Brooklyn neighborhood that bears its name, this park is known for its breathtaking views. Sunset Park offers stunning views of Manhattan’s rugged skyline at sunset at all times. From the highest point of the park, you can see the Statue of Liberty, the vibrant neighborhoods of Brooklyn and the green hills of Staten Island and New Jersey.

Coney island

On the south side of Brooklyn is Coney Island, a peninsula that is a hot spot especially in the summer months. Coney Island has a long sandy beach where you can sunbathe and swim perfectly. In addition, Coney Island is known for the Luna Park amusement park and is the place where the hot dog sandwich was invented. So don’t forget to visit hot dog store Nathan’s to try their Famous Hot Dogs. Coney Island is very easy to reach by subway from Manhattan.
