The first thing you notice upon entering the Foundation Hall of the 9\/11 museum are the 80-foot-long pieces of steel that formed the foundation of the original World Trade Center. Upon arrival at The Foundation Hall, you will find the Last Column. This is the last piece of Twin Tower steel removed from Ground Zero on May 20, 2002. In the central part of the 9\/11 museum between the escalator and the regular stairs, there is a very special staircase called the Survivors’ Stairs. This staircase was used by hundreds of people to get to safety on September 11. Before the attacks, the stairs were used as a connection between the Twin Towers and the outdoor square. If you walk towards the north tower in the 9\/11 museum, you will encounter the completely destroyed fire truck from Ladder 3. Ladder 3 was one of the first fire units to arrive at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The fire engine was severely damaged by the collapse of the Twin Towers, and the company lost all eleven members on board.
