The most famous one is, of course, Central Park, but what many tourists don’t realize is that New York has more than 1,900 parks.<\/p>\n

The parks are especially enjoyable during spring and summer, offering a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can go for a walk, have a picnic, or simply relax among the locals. Some parks host outdoor movie screenings during the summer, and there are even public swimming pools. Central Park is the largest and most famous park in New York. Located in the heart of Manhattan<\/a>, it is about a 10 to 15-minute walk from Times Square<\/a>. Personally, I think it is one of the best parks in the city to visit during a trip to New York.<\/p>\n

You can explore Central Park on foot or by bike. It is also possible to take a pedicab<\/a> tour through the park. If you are short on time, this is a great way to see many of the park’s highlights in a relatively short period.<\/p>\n

When is the best time to visit Central Park?<\/h3>\n

Personally, I think early morning is the best time to visit Central Park. Around sunrise, the park is still quiet, and you will mostly see locals jogging, walking, or heading to work. I often grab a bagel<\/a> and a cup of coffee<\/a> before finding a bench along The Mall. This wide promenade, sometimes referred to as The Literary Walk, leads toward the famous Bethesda Terrace and Bethesda Fountain.<\/p>\n

If you have more time, be sure to continue exploring the park. Along the way, you will pass well-known attractions such as Strawberry Fields, Belvedere Castle, Bow Bridge, and The Great Lawn.<\/p>\n

If you only have a few days in New York<\/a>, I would recommend exploring Central Park by bike. I have done this several times myself, and in my opinion, it is one of the best ways to see a large part of the park and Manhattan in a short amount of time. The High Line is a unique urban park approximately 2.3 kilometers (1.4 miles) long on the west side of Manhattan. Built on a former elevated railway line, the park stretches from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District<\/a> to Hudson Yards at West 34th Street. Personally, I think it is one of the best walks you can take in New York.<\/p>\n

Walking along The High Line feels more like a cultural journey than a typical park visit. Along the way, you’ll encounter not only beautiful plants and trees but also various artworks, murals, and temporary exhibitions. In addition, several viewpoints offer great views of Manhattan’s streets and the Hudson River.<\/p>\n

When is the best time to visit The High Line?<\/h3>\n

I personally prefer walking The High Line early in the morning. At that time, it is still relatively quiet, and you’ll encounter far fewer tourists than later in the day. It is also more comfortable for walking, especially during hot summer days.<\/p>\n

As you walk, you’ll gradually make your way toward Hudson Yards. For that reason, I often combine a visit to The High Line with a trip to the Edge observation deck<\/a>, as it is usually much less crowded earlier in the day. Along the route, you’ll also pass modern attractions such as the Vessel<\/a> and The Shops at Hudson Yards, a luxury shopping center with a variety of stores and restaurants.<\/p>\n

What I personally like about The High Line is how easy it is to adapt the walk to the amount of time you have available. The park has multiple access points along the route, allowing you to start or finish your walk at different locations. Brooklyn Bridge Park is located along the East River in the DUMBO<\/a> neighborhood and stretches all the way to the Manhattan Bridge<\/a>. The park features waterfront walking paths, several piers, sports fields, picnic areas, and beautifully landscaped gardens. Because it sits directly across from Manhattan, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Manhattan skyline and the Financial District<\/a> from many spots throughout the park.<\/p>\n

One of the park’s most famous attractions is Jane\u2019s Carousel. This historic carousel, dating back to 1922, features beautifully hand-carved wooden horses. Originally located in an amusement park in Ohio, the carousel found its home in Brooklyn Bridge Park in 2011.<\/p>\n

When is the best time to visit Brooklyn Bridge Park?<\/h3>\n

Brooklyn Bridge Park is personally one of my favorite parks in New York. I especially love Pebble Beach. From this small pebble beach, you can enjoy what is arguably one of the best views of the Manhattan skyline, with the Brooklyn Bridge in the foreground.<\/p>\n

The park can get quite busy during the day. That’s why I often combine a visit with an early morning walk across the Brooklyn Bridge<\/a> and some time exploring DUMBO. I usually leave early so I can grab something to eat or drink afterward at the Time Out Market, a great food hall featuring a variety of local restaurants and dishes.<\/p>\n

After my visit, I usually take the subway<\/a> back to Manhattan. If I have more time, I sometimes walk back via the Manhattan Bridge instead. Bryant Park is located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan<\/a>, between Fifth Avenue<\/a> and Sixth Avenue on 42nd Street<\/a>. Often considered the green heart of this busy neighborhood, it is one of New York’s most popular community parks. Despite its central location, the park usually has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Throughout the year, Bryant Park hosts a wide range of activities. These include yoga classes, tai chi, dance lessons, table tennis, chess, outdoor movie screenings, and even occasional performances by Broadway shows<\/a>. As a result, there is almost always something happening. Many locals also come here during their lunch break or after work to enjoy a meal or a drink.<\/p>\n

During the winter months, Bryant Park transforms completely. The large lawn makes way for a festive ice-skating rink, and the famous Winter Village takes over the park. Here, you’ll find more than 125 market stalls, a variety of food vendors, and cozy igloos where you can enjoy something to eat or drink.<\/p>\n

When is the best time to visit Bryant Park?<\/h3>\n

Bryant Park is one of the places I visit most often when I’m in Midtown Manhattan. During a long day of sightseeing, I find it the perfect spot to relax with a coffee or take a short break from the city’s busy streets.<\/p>\n

The park is only a few minutes’ walk from Times Square, and the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt<\/a> observation deck is also nearby. Right next to the park, you’ll find the New York Public Library<\/a>. This impressive library is free to visit and is definitely worth stepping inside for a look around.<\/p>\n

In general, Bryant Park has a calm atmosphere, although it can become quite busy around lunchtime. Little Island is a unique park built on an artificial island in the Hudson River at Pier 55 in the Chelsea<\/a> neighborhood. The park is known for its striking design, featuring winding pathways, scenic viewpoints, and plenty of greenery. Throughout the park, you’ll find thousands of plants, dozens of tree species, and colorful flowers arranged in a variety of patterns.<\/p>\n

One of my favorite spots on Little Island is the hidden Secret Garden. This small garden is filled with white flowers and is tucked away in a quieter part of the park. You reach it through a rose-covered archway that many visitors walk right past without noticing.<\/p>\n

When is the best time to visit Little Island?<\/h3>\n

A visit to Little Island can easily be combined with a walk toward Chelsea, Hudson Yards, or The High Line. I often stop by when I’m on my way to Hudson Yards to visit attractions such as Edge, Vessel, or The Shops at Hudson Yards.<\/p>\n

Personally, I don’t visit Little Island very often because it tends to get quite crowded later in the day. If you’d like to explore the park at a quieter time, I recommend visiting early in the morning. Afterward, you can continue your walk toward The High Line or Hudson Yards.<\/p>\n

If you’d like to see Little Island from above, Pier 57 Rooftop Park is well worth a visit. I regularly come here to enjoy a drink while taking in the views of the Hudson River. This free rooftop park sits on top of Pier 57 and, at approximately two hectares (five acres), is one of the largest public rooftop parks in New York. You can easily access it by taking the elevator to the top floor of the building.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Washington Square Park is located in the heart of Greenwich Village<\/a>, at the foot of Fifth Avenue between MacDougal Street and University Place. Together with Central Park, it is one of the most famous public parks in New York. The park is best known as a lively gathering place where tourists, students, street performers, and locals come together.<\/p>\n

The park’s most famous landmark is the Washington Square Arch. This large white arch was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of President George Washington’s inauguration and has become one of the iconic symbols of Greenwich Village.<\/p>\n

At the center of the park is the Washington Square Fountain. The area around the fountain is almost always buzzing with activity and is a popular spot to relax, watch people, or listen to street performers. During hot summer days, many visitors gather around the fountains to cool off, even though this is officially not allowed.<\/p>\n

Washington Square Park is also known for its chess tables on the southwest side of the park. Chess players gather here daily to challenge one another, and some of the matches can be surprisingly competitive. If you enjoy chess, it’s definitely worth stopping by for a game or simply watching the action.<\/p>\n

When is the best time to visit Washington Square Park?<\/h3>\n

Washington Square Park is one of my favorite parks in New York, mainly because there is almost always something happening. While walking through the park, you’ll often come across street musicians, solo performers, or even small jazz groups playing around the fountain.<\/p>\n

I usually visit the park in the afternoon when it is a bit busier. At the park’s entrance, you’ll find Grand Army Plaza, home to the impressive Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Arch. The plaza also features the Bailey Fountain and the John F. Kennedy Memorial.<\/p>\n

Like many other parks in New York, Prospect Park is known for its large open lawns where people come to exercise, walk, or enjoy a picnic. Long Meadow is especially popular. This enormous grassy area stretches for more than a mile and is often filled with New Yorkers relaxing and spending time outdoors on sunny days.<\/p>\n
